NET-QUBIC

NETherlands QUality of life and BIomedical Cohort in patients with head and neck cancer

The purpose of the Netherlands Quality of life and Biomedical Cohort (NET-QUBIC) study is to advance interdisciplinary research that aims to optimize diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care targeting head and neck cancer patients and their informal caregivers. NET-QUBIC is designed as a longitudinal observational cohort study with currently measurements at baseline (time of diagnosis) and 3 and 6 months, and 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years after treatment. In parallel to the data collection, a biobank has been established.

Infrastructure and User Services

In the NET-QUBIC study a wide range of measures were collected, including clinical data, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), fieldwork assessments and collection of biobank samples. Clinical data was collected after the end of primary treatment, and at 2-years follow-up. PROMs were completed at baseline (approximately 2 weeks after diagnosis), and at 3 months, 6 months, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5-years after treatment by both head and neck cancer patients and their informal caregivers. Fieldwork assessments including interview data, objective tests, and medical examinations were performed at baseline, 6 months, and 1, 2, and 5-years follow-up among head and neck cancer patients only. In addition, tumour biopsies were collected at baseline and biobank samples (blood, oral rinse and saliva) at baseline, 6 months, and 1-, 2- and 5-years follow-up in patients. In caregivers blood and oral rinse were collected once at baseline.

Examples/description of the type of research

The purpose of the Netherlands Quality of life and Biomedical Cohort (NET-QUBIC) study is to advance interdisciplinary research that aims to optimize diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care targeting head and neck cancer patients and their informal caregivers. All research that fits this purpose can be facilitated by our research infrastructure, including e.g. clinical, epidemiological, psychological, quality of life and tumor biology research.

How to access the infrastructure?

Most users have access to our datafiles. Depending on the research questions, some also need physical access (e.g. biobank samples) or remote access.
