Roadmap
In 2015, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science set up the Permanent Committee for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure (PC-GWI) to work towards a sustainable ecosystem of LRI in the Netherlands. Large-scale Research Infrastructure (LRI) is essential for the position of Dutch science: it makes a significant contribution to innovation and to solving major social issues relating to the environment, climate, health and civilisation.

Large-scale Research Infrastructure (LRI) is essential for the position of Dutch science: it makes a significant contribution to innovation and to solving major social issues relating to the environment, climate, health and civilisation.
For example highly specialized devices, such as large telescopes, high field magnets or advanced sensors and measuring networks necessary for biological and earth sciences research. But also for 'virtual' facilities, such as extensive databases, scientific computer networks, or for data and sample collections. In 2016, the first National Roadmap was published, containing 33 large-scale (clusters of) research facilities.
In the Roadmap 2021, nine Groups (with substantive, thematic or technical interfaces) on behalf of the Dutch research field present their priorities for investments in large-scale scientific infrastructure for the next ten years. These research infrastructures are essential for answering new scientific questions: places and services that attract top talent from all over the world.
