DORIC-RW

Dutch Oncological Research Infrastructure for Real-World Clinical Data and Biomaterial Collection

The ‘Dutch Oncological Research Infrastructure for Real-World Clinical Data and Biomaterial Collection (DORIC-RW)’ provides a cutting-edge research infrastructure by a collaboration of multiple patient cohorts in the field of (hemato)oncology. It connects researchers with high-quality patient data, PROMS and biomaterials, that can be used for research purposes with informed consent of the patient. Through collaborations with hospitals, biobanks, and data platforms, DORIC-RW ensures secure access to diverse patient cohorts while upholding the highest ethical and privacy standards.

Infrastructure and User Services

The ‘Dutch Oncological Research Infrastructure for Real-World Clinical Data and Biomaterial Collection (DORIC-RW)’ provides a state-of-the-art research infrastructure facilitating multidisciplinary oncology research and accelerating the development of innovative treatments.

DORIC-RW is a collaboration between various oncological patient cohorts, including hematological oncology cohorts. It provides access to high-quality biobanks, and clinical and molecular data of colorectal, anal and small bowel cancer, bladder cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, hematological cancers and rare tumor types. Besides well-characterized tumor samples, genomic data, imaging datasets, and patient-reported outcomes are available. Cohorts also provide the possibility to perform a randomized study according the Trials within a Cohort design.

Secure access to patient data and samples can be provided, streamlining collaboration between hospitals, research institutions, and industry partners.

Examples/description of the type of research

DORIC-RW supports cutting-edge cancer research by providing access to high-quality patient data and biospecimens. The infrastructure facilitates translational and clinical research, focusing on:

  • Biomarker discovery & validation – Identifying molecular signatures for early cancer detection, prognosis, and treatment response.
  • Personalized treatment – Developing and optimizing targeted therapies based on patient-specific genetic and molecular profiles.
  • Drug development & repurposing – Accelerating preclinical and clinical evaluation of new and existing drugs using real-world patient data.
  • Tumor evolution & resistance – Studying how cancers adapt to treatments to improve therapeutic strategies.
  • Health outcomes & epidemiology – Investigating long-term treatment effects and patient quality of life.
  • Prospective randomized studies – Investigating an intervention via a 'Trial within Cohort' design (TwiCs).

With its biobanks the platform enables multi-omics research, integrating genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics with clinical data, while access to longitudinal patient data supports real-world evidence studies. Additionally, the infrastructure fosters collaborative research, linking academic, clinical, and industry partners to translate discoveries into clinical practice.

How to access the infrastructure?

Virtual (digital) access – Researchers access clinical and molecular data through secure digital platforms and download the data sets. (50%)
Remote access – Approved users can analyze de-identified data without direct download via DRE, ensuring data privacy. (20%)
Physical access – Biospecimens (e.g., tumor tissue, blood samples) are available and are distributed under strict ethical and legal guidelines (30%)
