Infrastructure and User Services
The infrastructure consists of three interconnected layers,
- A national IT infrastructure: Sport Data Valley (SDV) (sportdatavalley.nl),
- Sport living labs
- Sportinnovator centers (sportinnovator.nl) and Science Centers.
Examples/description of the type of research
The infrastructure facilitates a broad variety of research types, ranging from basic experimental studies in traditional movement lab settings aimed at theory and model construction and testing to applied studies in field lab settings aimed at testing proof-of-concepts and subsequent implementation (i.e. translational research), and from theory-driven research to data-driven research.
Recently, the possibilities for monitoring movement in daily life and everyday environments like home, work, school and care center have increased tremendously, which not only allows for studying movement-related processes and interventions in many individuals but also in an individually oriented manner, allowing for individual tailoring of interventions aimed at improving human movement in view of performance and health goals. To this end, movement and exercise data need to be combined with other relevant (biological, mental, social and health) data related to the individual user (or "mover"). This will be achieved by enriching existing longitudinal cohort studies with movement data such that new patterns of interrelations and dependencies will be discerned and potentially effective interventions for improving (or optimizing) movement of individuals in relation to performance and health goals will be identified.
How to access the infrastructure?
All three layers of the infrastructure can be used by external parties.
SDV provides shared services, such as tools, support and knowledge, and provides a national FAIR data infrastructure for data around Sports and Movement. Living sports labs are places for smart, innovative and careful data use; accessible places where data professionals and sports scientists join forces. The network of Sport Innovator centers is an open network, but Sport innovator centers have to go through a certification process with different levels of certification. Currently there are 20 certified Sport innovator centers (https://www.sportinnovator.nl).
