Infrastructure and User Services
A main research topic of the Tracer Center Amsterdam is “imaging in drug development and application”, which should find solutions for the problem of “expensive” drugs" and de-risk drug development of pharma companies and SMEs. Expertise ranges from radionuclide production, through new tracer development and preclinical evaluation, to clinical use of new and existing tracers with highly qualified specialists who operate in a truly multidisciplinary environment. The whole process is performed according to state of-the-art GMP/GLP/GCP standards. In addition, the GMP facilities that are inspected on a regular basis by the Dutch Health Care Inspectorate and audited by pharma companies and are licensed to manufacture tracers for human use according to the latest EU guidelines. Moreover, the Imaging Center possesses PET data analysis and training centers. Together with LaserLab Amsterdam also optical tracers are developed.
Examples/description of the type of research
The research infrastructure is focused on the in vivo characterization and validation of molecular disease targets, as well as the in vivo characterization and validation of targeted drugs/vectors to be used for diagnostic, therapeutic or theranostic purposes. This approach is spanning the characterization of targets, drugs, and diseases in preclinical in vivo models as well as in first-in-human clinical trials. The research infrastructure supports R&D activities in this field of other academic centers, (inter)national pharma companies as well as SMEs.
How to access the infrastructure
It will be access for agreed research proposals executed by personnel of Amsterdam UMC Imaging Center. This is needed because of the training and licenses that are required.
