Infrastructure and User Services
The Rotterdam Study features a dedicated and fully equipped research centre, large data storage facilities, high performance computing facilities, and consultancy services.
The Rotterdam Study provides a logistic platform to conduct prospective epidemiological research in the general population of the Ommoord neighboorhood. At present fourteen research groups are actively collecting data through the facilities.
Examples/description of the type of research
The Rotterdam Study currently services fourteen research lines; Cardiovascular and Diabetes, Dermatology, Genetic Epidemiology, Hepatology, Population Imaging, Internal Medicine (endocrinology, immunology, nephrology, and locomotor), Lifestyle and Nutrition, Neuro-epidemiology, Ophthalmic Epidemiology , Otolaryngology, Pharmaco-epidemiology, Oncology, Psychiatric epidemiology, and Pulmonology. The aim is to describe the prevalence and incidence, unravel the etiology, and identify targets for prediction, prevention or intervention of multifactorial diseases in mid-life and elderly. Determinants of disease are assessed at the research center. Outcomes of disease are assessed by continuous follow-up data collection with general practitioners and hospitals, and data linkage with national health registries.
