BPM

Biomedical Proteomics and Metabolomics

The BPM is using analytical technology such as mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance to study a broad range of molecules of life. With these analyses, BPM contributes to unraveling mechanisms of life as well as disease-associated disturbances. The insights are used to develop diagnostics as well as therapeutic interventions.

Infrastructure and User Services

Biomedical research requires insights into cellular and molecular processes that determine health and disease. The BPM hosts mass spectrometric and NMR infrastructure at biomedical research institutions throughout the Netherlands to analyze proteins and metabolites, as well as the necessary data acquisition, storage and analysis infrastructure.

Examples/description of the type of research

BPM characterizes proteins and metabolites in research and clinical samples with regard to their detailed structure including protein post-translational modifications, spatial distribution, and turnover providing insights into processes of health and disease. The BPM has core expertise in signal transduction via the post-translational modifications glycosylation (LUMC), phosphorylation (AUMC), ubiquitination (EMC) and sumoylation (LUMC).

How to access the infrastructure?

90% based on scientific excellence, with expenses covered by grants; joint grant application, personal intake with relevent group leader(s) assigned on the basis of scientific expertise.

10% (industrial) services, on the basis of acquisition.
