AMC

Advanced Manufacturing Centre

The Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) comprises industry-ready equipment demonstrating emerging manufacturing technologies across process, system, and digital levels. Three key demonstrators highlight industrial additive manufacturing, flexible automated assembly, and battery production. Technologies include industrial robots, cobots, autonomous mobile platforms, micron-scale parts handling, metal/polymer additive manufacturing, multi-axis CNC machining, 3D scanning, and a battery cell pilot line. These are supported by an internal 5G network, digital monitoring tools, and expert researcher engineers who link the AMC to industry.

Infrastructure and User Services

Additive Manufactured parts in a variety of (metal and polymer) materials and sizes

  • High precision 5-axis CNC machining
  • Optical 3D scanning
  • Medium scale industrial robots, cobots and mobile autonomous platforms
  • Flexible parts handling for high-mix, low volume of small to medium scale assemblies (inc. micron scale, modular assembly)
  • Battery cell pilot line
  • Digital twin and dashboard capabilities for the above equipment, including various sensor systems
  • 5G internal network for real-time data capture and process control

Technical support for operating the above equipment

  • Research support for short-term high TRL research projects
  • Connection to local industrial manufacturing community
  • Subsidy programs operated through the AMC
  • Additive Manufactured prototype parts
  • Post-process finishing of additive manufactured parts
  • Training and education programs based around the above equipment and softwares
  • Prototyping and proof of concept development

Examples/description of the type of research

The AMC acts as a data source that is similar to industrial production but with open access and not bound by IP protection. Industry can perform test-before-investment assessments and proof-of-concept for new manufacturing technologies. New materials and product designs can be evaluated.

How to access the infrastructure?

Most equipment is expected to be operated physically (90%)
Although all equipment is configured for remote access, it is not expected to be used more than 10% in this manner
